AdministrationMarcia Bench

Marcia Bench, MCCC, Founder/Director

Title, Credentials: Master Certified Career Coach (MCCC), Certified Business Coach (CBC), Certified Career Management Practitioner (CMP), Certified Teleleader; J.D. degree in law and B.S. degree in psychology.

Web sites: www.careercoachinstitute.com, www.retirementcoachinstitute.com www.marciabench.com and many more.

What I Do: I am the Founder and Director of Career Coach Institute and its affiliate companies. I conceived the idea of blending career development with coach training in 2000, and shortly after that created CCI. I have developed and continue to oversee its program design, staffing, strategic planning, budgeting, student services, marketing, web services and curriculum development. CCI is my fourth business venture, and I love being an entrepreneur and owner of a growing company. I have also done my stint in “corporate,” both in administrative support and executive roles, and find that my need to respond quickly when an idea strikes and to do it “my way” draws me to business ownership.

What I Like About My Work: My favorite part of my work is seeing (or hearing) the “quantumshift!” moment when someone who is coaching, being coached, or learning, finally has a moment of clarity. What a moment! I also love working virtually, since my spouse is retired and I love to travel, coaching and coach training lets me live my life and work wherever I go (or delegate it so I can take a break every so often!). And I love to innovate: if there’s a better way to do something and no one has thought of it yet, I’ll be the one to try it!

Favorite Career Development/Self Improvement Program: Early on, it was Marsha Sinetar’s work that most inspired me, as well as author Nancy Anderson. Then Richard Lieder and so many current authors that continue to share the message of hope with the weary working world. Each of them opened my mind to the possibility that you can have work that is fun and also financially rewarding. And that’s what I have committed my life to helping myself and others create for themselves.

Favorite Thing I’ve Learned About Myself Through Career Coach Training: I’ve learned so much more about what nurtures and works best for me: I love to have a Practice Development, I love to combine seemingly disparate knowledge or concepts into a cohesive set of principles or a program, I love to create and offer new products that wow people, and I love to have spontaneity and space for change in my life. And I’m thankful that those that work with me understand that and embrace it too (at least most of the time!)

Favorite Career Coaching Book: Well, I have to admit it’s my own, Career Coaching: An Insider’s Guide, and anything by Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Favorite Hobbies/Leisure Activities: I enjoy hiking in the woods of Oregon, being by the ocean, playing tennis – or watching professional matches, cooking and entertaining, boating, and warm weather. I am a cat lover and love to travel by RV, cruise ship or boat to fun new places.

Peggy Knudson, Administrative Assistant

Peggy Knudson, Business Manager/Student Relations Director

Title, Credentials: Business Manager, CPS (Certified Professional Secretary).

What I Do: I assist and support all students through setup, training and post certification. I also provide executive and technical support and to Marcia Bench. My past experience working at Microsoft comes in handy in my job with CCI!

What I Like About My Work: Everyone I work with, from students, members and staff are the most optimistic people one could hope for! It’s a dynamic group of caring people and a joy to be part of.

Favorite Career Development/Self Improvement Program: The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy

Favorite Thing I’ve Learned About Myself Through Career Coach Training: I have not taken the CCI training, but have found that my “authentic vocation” evolves around helping others. My goal in life is to insure those I come in contact with, don’t take life to seriously!

Favorite Career Coaching Book: “Career Coaching an Insiders Guide” (of course!)

Favorite Hobbies/Leisure Activities: Travel via RV and enjoying my 3 cats! I also like to read totally unimportant things – I refer to it as brain candy.

Beth McIntosh

Beth McIntoshTitle, Credentials: Currently Assistant Student Relations Director for Career Coach Institute; Former work includes Real Estate Broker for State of Oregon; Operations Manager for an export firm; Office Manager for various other companies; Certified Member of Community Emergency Response Team for the city I live in (Beaverton, OR)

Web site (if any): None yet, but I’m working on it. I now have a better understanding of what I want it to be.

What I Do: I assist and support Peggy Knudson with student setup, exams and general Career Coach Institute duties. I also provide administrative support to Marcia Bench. Thank goodness I have a TON of experience in organization and office management that I can bring to the table at CCI to further enhance their systems.

What I Like About My Work: It allows me to have a flexible work schedule, which means I can be more efficient and have time for a personal life; something that’s hard to find in corporate America. I’m best when I can be creative and add to or improve the processes of a business. I love that! The people I’ve met at Career Coach Institute have been very generous with their time and their praise and are a wonderful group of people to work with and to just chat with.

Favorite Career Development/Self Improvement Program: I’ve read various self-help books and have personally gone through some career counseling in person. I’ve even studied Buddhism, which helped me with meditation and calming my mind. One of the authors I’ve always loved is Shakti Gawain who wrote Creative Visualization (among others). The book, Life – A Complete Operating Manual by Lauren Tratar is very good. My favorite inspiration has been Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now. I even took his webclass with Oprah.

Favorite Thing I’ve Learned About Myself Through Career Coach Training: I haven’t yet taken any career coach training, but I’m certainly intrigued by all the offerings of CCI. I’ve learned various things about myself just by living, reading (and working, of course). I like to help people become organized and efficient so they can truly enjoy their life more and don’t feel so overwhelmed.

Favorite Career Coaching Book: So far I’ve liked What Color is Your Parachute? by Richard N. Bolles, but I hope to read Marcia Bench’s Career Coaching an Insider’s Guide very soon.

Favorite Hobbies/Leisure Activities: Sewing – my sister and I create very silly-looking dinosaurs, plus other creations. I also love arts and crafts, reading – any type of book; and walking – either outside, or if it’s really pouring (Pacific NW, you know) on my treadmill while watching a DVD. I also love to spend time with my granddaughter, Trista, who is the love of my life.

Donna Eliassen

Donna EliassenTitle, Credentials: Admin/Marketing Assistant.  7-8 years VA experience, prior that 20+ years corporate Personal Assistant experience.

Web site (if any): I removed my website – plan to do a new one “one day”.

What I Do:: I assist with copywriting; copy editing; writing (newsletters/articles/blogs/book chapters/press releases) and general VA “stuff”.  I do different things for different clients.

What I Like About My Work: The freedom to work hours that suit my lifestyle – the flexibility - I love being able to sleep in when I feel the need and have the ability to work later to make up the time – can’t do that in the ‘real world’!

Favorite Career Development/Self Improvement Program: When asked to pick “favorite” anythings, I feel a sense of disloyalty to other somethings that I consider equal favorites – so I just don’t do it.  Everything has value… every “oyster” has a pearl for me.

Favorite Thing I’ve Learned About Myself Through Career Coach Training: I haven’t studied career coach training – I am not a coach – but from the coaching experience I’ve been exposed to, I think the favorite thing I’ve learned about myself would be that I’m a lot more resilient and ‘positive’ than I thought I was!

Favorite Career Coaching Book: I don’t have a favorite and to be honest, up until right now, I’ve not read any career specific coaching books – but if I was going to, I’d read Marcia’s simply because she’s the guru of career coaching!

Favorite Hobbies/Leisure Activities: My daughter swims competitively at State level –  she takes it seriously and would like to try out for the Olympics one day… given this info, you may realize that as a “swimming mummy” I don’t have a life of my own! What free time I have is spent at or around a swimming pool somewhere and when I’m not doing that, I’m the Swim club’s official PR/Media person, also their photographer, and also the person who does their newsletter and updates their website.  Oh, and being a qualified official time-keeper, I get roped in to doing my share of that as well!

Jan Carroll and Bill Rodgers, Web Designers, JBCR Virtual Soltuions

Jan Carroll & Bill Rodgers – Web Guru

Title, Credentials: Owner of JBCR Virtual Solutions, Certified I.T. Publishing/Web Design/Programming, University of British Columbia.

Web site: http://www.jbcr-virtualsolutions.com and http://www.arclightgraphics.com

What I Do: We offer website design / maintenance, search engine optimization, creative development and publishing, ecommerce and technical services (to name a few).  As an online production company, when someone comes to us who wants to create an online business we work with them from the ground up. This includes not only creating the website (their business visual), but also creating or editing current content for optimization, creating the ecommerce side of the business and working with the client on the pricing, packaging (graphics) and distribution or products (promotions and affiliates).

What I Like About My Work: We love every aspect of our work. Marcia is a true professional and a joy to work with, as are all CCI staff!

Favorite Career Development/Self Improvement Program: There is no particular self-improvement program that we can name.  Part of what we do is on a daily basis we keep on top of new technologies being introduced.

Favorite Thing I’ve Learned About Myself Through Career Coach Training:

Jan – In my position I have learned that I am good at and enjoy coaching in the numerous web areas that I am experienced in.

Bill – I am more talented than I imagined at creating unique and/or simple solutions when asked to look at a technical problem which at first glance appears to be huge roadblock.

Favorite Career Coaching Book:

Jan – Though not a coaching book, Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet teaches me something new every time I read his words.  The Prophet is a book I treasure.

Bill – I haven’t read any coaching books. I only read technical manuals on programming, scripting and software training manuals. I suppose if I had to choose favorites they would the “Bible” series, such as the “Flash 8 Bible.” They publish for many different software titles. Lots of real world examples to build from some the best programmers in the world.

Favorite Hobbies/Leisure Activities: We love what we do so much that even in our spare time you will find us in front of our computers – side by side :-).  We also spend our spare time creating our own new websites, researching, scripting, oh you name it!  We also love just being together - gardening, going for walks, bicycling, and our fluff ball cat KC.

Judy Rodda

Judy RodaTitle, Credentials: President of Judy Rodda & Associates (A division of Legacy Associates, Inc.)

Vice President/Corporate Secretary of Legacy Associates, Inc.

In addition to my formal degree work in Business Management at Ohio University, I have competed advanced studies through Institutes for Organizational Management offered by the US Chamber of Commerce through the University of Delaware.  I have continuing associations with three highly acclaimed coaching programs:   Career Coach Institute (CCI), B-Coach, and Resource Associates Corporation (RAC).

Web site (if any): www.career-lifechange.com (not quite finished)

What I Do: I coach individual clients specifically in the areas of career transition (new career or new position/promotion), career-life balance, and transition to retirement.  I also do coaching for organizations to assist individual clients and small groups in the areas of leadership development, promotion achievement, professional image & business etiquette, and outplacement.  In addition, I offer independent group coaching workshops and seminars in those same areas.

What I Like About My Work: I like helping people enhance their overall quality of life by coaching and facilitating their “journey” to understand their strengths; explore their career and/or retirement options; and assess and adjust their career-life balance.

Favorite Career Development/Self Improvement Program: My favorite Career Development tools come out of CCI’s “Authentic Vocation” series.  I also like the Leadership Development & Time Strategies material from Resource Associates.  In addition, I frequently use books by Marcus Buckingham (“The One Thing You Need to Know”; “Go, Put Your Strengths to Work” & “First, Break all the Rules”); Daniel Goleman (“Working with Emotional Intelligence”); Dorothy Leeds (“Smart Questions” & “The 7 Powers of Questions”); Nicholas Lore (“The Pathfinder”) and Timothy Butler (“Getting Unstuck”).

Favorite Thing I’ve Learned About Myself Through Career Coach Training:: I have learned that I am a good listener and that I truly enjoy the role of coach.  I love helping clients find their own path to a fulfilling career.  I have always been a resourceful person, and in past careers I have used that skill to find the answer and provide the solution.  Through Career Coach training I have discovered ways to use my “resourcefulness” so that clients discover their own best answers and solutions.

Favorite Career Coaching Book: Career Coaching, An Insider’s Guide by Marcia Bench; The Pathfinder by Nicholas Lore; and Getting Unstuck by Timothy Butler

Favorite Hobbies/Leisure Activities: Reading; Life Long Learning Classes; Zonta International/Fairfax VA Chapter (Service Club); movies; walking; bike-riding; travel; socializing with friends; visiting grand children.

Jacqui Brett

Jacqui BrettTitle, Credentials: Admissions Coach.

Certified Personnel Consultant (CPC), Certified Personal Brand Strategist (CPBS), Job & Career Transition Coach (JCTC)

Web site (if any): New website and blog coming soon -- stay tuned!

What I Do:: I’m a career coach, personal brand expert, and executive recruiter, with nearly 20 years experience working with clients across a diverse range of industries. The people I work with most often have a background in PR or corporate/marketing communications at companies ranging from globally recognized consumer brands, multinational manufacturers, PR and integrated communications firms, broadcast media and technology companies, start-ups, and social enterprises.  I’ve also co-authored a breakthrough fashion and beauty book and once owned a women’s health and wellness company with nearly 1,000 members and 15 employees.   Prior to becoming an executive recruiter, I spent ten years in the corporate arena, working in media relations, corporate communications, product marketing PR, and executive communications.

What I Like About My Work: Partnering with highly motivated, passionate key contributors who are excited by new ideas and fueled with a desire to make a meaningful difference in the world. They’re ready to realize the next Big Vision for their lives and I love supporting them in doing it. My work is totally aligned with my personal mission, and I wake up each day grateful, passionate and excited about what I’ve manifested and get to do in my life. I want folks everywhere to do work that is aligned with their personal mission -- to see the diamonds beneath the soles of their feet and to present them as their authentic contribution to the world.

Favorite Career Development/Self Improvement Program: On the personal front, The Legacy Center’s Basic, Advance, and Leadership programs were huge life-changing, awareness expanding experiences for me, as well as the work of Esther Hicks, Deepak Chopra and Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Professionally, the Reach Personal Branding program perfectly combined my background in career development and PR/marketing communications.  And of course, Career Coach Institute’s certification program!  Authentic Vocation, the heart of this program, is exactly what I’d been coaching people on – before I knew Authentic Vocation existed. Through a terrific methodology and process for assisting people in making the necessary shifts to reach their goals and create the vision they have for their careers, CCI’s training has made me more confident and tremendously better at what I had been doing instinctively.  Also, CCI’s certifications are world class training programs that provide our coaches with the skillset and ability to be among the best in the industry.  Do I sound slightly biased?  Perhaps so – but it’s all based on the personal experience of working with candidates and employers on the front lines of the job market.

Favorite Thing I’ve Learned About Myself Through Career Coach Training: Just how much I enjoy being a catalyst for people doing great things in their lives and making a difference in the world around them..

Favorite Career Coaching Book: Yikes – I’m a voracious reader, so the list is long!  Topping it: Career Coaching –Marcia Bench, Free Agent Nation – Daniel Pink, The Brand You 50 – Tom Peters and The Success Principles – Jack Canfield.

Favorite Hobbies/Leisure Activities: Listening to jazz, practicing Kyokushin karate, and watching my son play basketball.  I’m also one of the founders of The Kidney Coaching Foundation, an organization that provides volunteer life coaches to adolescents and young adults living with kidney disease.
